back in the day..

I came across these old ads I worked on since thinking about typography has made me a little nostalgic for my ad days. I definitely miss the collaboration that went on and the great teams of people I worked with. On these ads, back in the dark days of 3d, I did the artwork on the 2 3d pieces, and the logo for mobic. It’s funny, after seeing Helvetica. My main goal with that logo was to avoid, at all costs using either Eurostile or Helveltica Neue Extended Italic in a logo, which, in the pharmaceutical industry, was always a danger. The contact lens type thing I did in a combination of Animation: Master and Cinema 4d. The seem pretty dated at this point, but hey, doing 3d renders on an underpowered mac was a challenge.

Helvetica is a feature-length independent film about typography, graphic design and global visual culture. It looks at the proliferation of one typeface (which will celebrate its 50th birthday in 2007) as part of a larger conversation about the way type affects our lives. The film is an exploration of urban spaces in major cities and the type that inhabits them, and a fluid discussion with renowned designers about their work, the creative process, and the choices and aesthetics behind their use of type.”

Having started out doing years of type design, it’s impossible not to geek out on this.

I went to see this with my son and a friend who actually worked on the original series in the UK…I heartily recommend it if you get a chance. The puppets/animatronics are pretty amazing!
